搞科研的，难逃国家自然科学基金这一关。就像丑媳妇也迟早有天要见公婆!

有了基金，就打开了晋升职称的通道；

有了基金，就不愁没小钱，不愁没小名；

有了基金，科研人的生活才更精彩。

 

但是追寻她，路漫漫其修远，必须坚持不懈，上下而求索。

5月31日　博士学位论文答辩

5月25日　所有评审意见返回

5月10日　提交论文并送审

5月8日　 完成学位论文修改稿

 

4月30日　完成论文初稿

4月15日　签完三方协议

3月27日　公示录用人员，收到录用通知

3月15日　参加海洋二所面试

 

2月28日回国

 

 

It is the time all the family members should stay together, but I have missed reunion for three times. The first time (2004)is due to my childish and naughty and I spent the New Year's Eve in Uni just for an experience to satisfy my own curiosity. It was an unwise choice as all my family members were not happy about what I have done. I am sorry for that.

The second time is for a training abroad. I spend the New Year's Eve in Hongkong while I was on the trip from Hangzhou-Hongkong-Perth in 2007. I walked along the Star Boulevard alone on the side of Victoria gulf, I felt a little loney.

This is the third time I was doing my oversea study in UWA in Perth. I should stay here for six month, and again I will miss the Chinese New Year. It is not a big deal to me, but may be more important for parents and family.

I  am sure and will do my best to spend the most important festival with my family. As at any time, family comes first.

She was seriously sick during the Christmas and New Year. Her family spent the last big holiday with her in the hospital. Sadly she passed away on the morning of 4 January.

She is my last landload's mother in Perth. I stayed in their family for twice when I paid visits to Perth. They are very kind to me and treated me as a member of their family. In fact they are my closest foreign friends in Australia, which make me happy to spend the time in Perth, the most lonely city around the world.

I am sorry for the bad news, but I can do nothing but to condole them with sympathy and ask them to take care. And I am willing to attend the funeral with their permission.

There were about 200 people gathered at the gate to Karrakatta Cemetery. At 10:30, three red Ford cars ran slowly and carefully through the gate, two of which were Stretch Limousines. The cars stopped in front of the parterre while people followed behind. All the attendants were asked to write down their name and address in a lively card, which may be kept by the family for memo.

While any preparation was done, the line for the ceremony moved forward. Priest led the line and was followed by four maids(女傧), three cars and 200 attendants. All the people gathered at a hall. Four maids accompanied the coffin of the dead into the hall at last while everyone stood still and the sad music was coming out.

Then the Priest prayed for the dead, the son of the dead gave out a speech on his mother's live story. He was trying to make the story more fun and alleviate the sadness of the ceremony, but I know he was so deeply in loved with his dead mother.

At last, the dead was going to be buried to the land. Just as the Priest said, " we come from the land, and we will return to the land". Everyone was invited to pick up a rose and toss it on the top of the coffin, in the love of the dead. Family members were lined at the other end of the pit for coffin, accepting people's condolence and wishes.

The ceremony ended at right the noon. The sun was so bright and even burning the land.

It was so cruel for us, for human being. Everyone should return to the place we were born. But we should enjoy a beautiful life and make more sense to our living life.

In the memory of aunt - Smith Dadjuil. We will miss you for ever.

 

As a geology PhD student, I have been working in geology field for more than 8 years. I am always puzzled what I have learnt in the past 8 years, since I entered in the univ..

In fact I can do a lot, though I am not so sure I can do all of them as experts in each field. I do know how to do that.

Fieldwork: stratigraphy, petrography, structure, and geologic map draft, different style sample collecting;

Sample treatment: crush, thin section, mill and grind, mineral separation;

In-lab analyses: SEM, TEM, EMPA, XRF, ICP-MS, SHRIMP, Raman, paleomagnetism, fluid inclusion;

Data reduction: major and trace elements, Sr-Nd-Pb isotopes, SHRIMP dating, ⁴⁰Ar/³⁹Ar dating;

Software: CorelDraw, Photoshop, Carbonsoft, Landmark, Matlab and so on.

 

This is all because of a party held in a Professor's family. who is a chinese australian. All the sayings below are by a drunk person, i.e. me. though I know I am clear.

I love China, I love all the people from China, though they are bad or good. That's the country I belong to. In abroard, I got this feeling more strong especially I am drunk (in fact I am not). Every people thought I am drunk, but I am clear, in fact.

There is a saying "gold nest, silver nest, no better than your weed nest". You belong to China. It is chinese government who give you the money to study abroard. You should feel grateful to them, but not just blame.

You think yourself are good enough to live in the abroard. However, every native people think you are a just Chinese, you know. So don't forget that, you are a just Chinese guy. If  China is still in the time of Qing dynasty, than your are having the same treatment as a dog.

Just imagine you are in the position of Hujingtao, what will you do to China to change the status of China.

I believe that you guys are smart enough to get abroard. but have you considered the problems happened in China.

What will you do? Please ask yourself the same question.

I don't want to hear the blame to China, I want to get the suggestions. So if you are a Chinese, please use what you  have seen in abroard and give some advise to Chinese government. Thank you!

I believe the next century is belong to China.

Finally, I made up my decision to buy a DSLR for myself. It was very hard to persuade both my mind and my wallet to come to the agreement.

To me, as a student still in the univ., it is always easy for me to make up my mind, but hard to get the permission from my pocket. Haha, ironical...
Sony a200 is not so nice as a350, but to a beginner it is enough for SLR practice. It also has a good price. That is AUD770, including twin lenses, a case and a 4GB compact flash card. Compared to canon 1000D, it is a heavier and you can have a better feeling about the camera. It is more steady while taking photos.

It is a good chance for me to see the air race, so I will never give up it though I have a lot of work to do.

This is the fourth time for me to visit Perth, a lovely city. Enjoy the life in this City.

就寝，少蚊虫，睡得---香!

 

更有趣，偶有蚊，小指凑近数毫米，不走，小命被我之小指夺矣，可怜！

后有蚊来咬，于心不忍，先赶走，再追之，可叹---东北蚊子，真憨！

It has been a long time since I felt so happy. Today I've got a good news to all who care about me. I past the IELTS test. Why am I so happy? As this was the second time for me to take the test and finally I made it: From 7765(6.5) to 8866(7). It is true that we may feel overjoyed if we achieve sth not so easily. Just like 'easy come,easy go', we appreciate more on those we get by all our strength. Life is composed with hard work and great harvests. "No pain, no gain". I can not agree on it more.

 

Thanks given to those who gave me great encouragement and suggestions, namely my friends in Australia, my younger classmate Niu John, my supervisor both in Aus and inbound.

I came to Perth mainly for the testing of samples on the SHRIMP machine in Curtin Univ.. But the machine have stopped to work for fortnight. I have no choice, and others either.

It is hot summer right now at the south hemisphere.The highest temperature today is 42 degree centigrade. There is no cloud in the blue sky. The sunshine is sure to burn your skin at a short while. Terrible!

A hard trip especially the slow train. It was the slowest train I have ever taken.  It took 4 hours to finish a 200km distance. What is even worse, We were all so sleepy in the early morning but there was no room to have a nap.

From the south to north, from the sky to ground, from the luxury plane to simple train, from Australia to China, ....... a large gap between these. I should have the time to recover, not only the environment but my mental.

不出家门，不知世界之大，不知地球之方圆。尽管耳有所闻，但总不及亲身体会之真真切切。

到了南半球，很多东西得反过来。

初来此地，老是觉得不对劲：

 

杭州是炎炎夏日，这里则是凉爽的冬天；

出门走路喜欢靠右，这边的人却都向左；

从右边上车想坐副驾，却发现自己占了司机的位置；

出门总为路上行人太多而担忧，这边却让你极其渴望遇上一个路人；

老奇怪这里各种店铺下班时间如此之早，明摆着有生意也不做；

这边人总是那么热情，遇上了肯定会say hello；

房东家的宠物猫天天吃肉，而我却因主人是素食家而荤腥不沾；

房东上班在家里，好像就陪聊聊天，竟然也能赚钱；

这边每天正午的太阳在北面，搞得我南北不分；

这里的人每周工作五天，逢周末就开车出去郊游，甚至把房客赶了自已出去玩；

这里的东西不贵，一瓶可乐也就2个多乐(dollar)；

这里的环境的确很棒，穿了近一个月的球鞋竟不积一点尘土；

这里的小孩到了十七八岁就离开父母，搬出去自己生活，偶尔回来蹭饭；

在这里不开着小车出门，感觉很丢人，尽管十字路口车会让人；

这边的人一天之中基本只吃一餐，早中饭加起来还不够我点心；

晚上正餐（dinner）花样很多，但也远没有祖国的菜肴博大精深，美味可口；

房东收了我的周租，却另外索要饮用水费，而一日三餐却含在周租内了；

好好的土豆弄成了泥巴，既不雅观，也实在难吃；

.......

I just gave out my presentation this morning. The hardest academic work for us here in UWA is coming to a full stop. I am feeling so relaxed, also tired out. I was busy with my presentation last night until 2 O'clock. Pressure brings the motivity or drive. I am used to doing my work as I am pushed, though this is not a good way to finish my work.
